The wife of the Iranian president, Azamossadat Farahi, and the Iranian Science Minister, Kamran Daneshju, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony of the event. Highlighting the relationships between science, women, and the roles of these two in developing the world, Farahi described ‘science’ and ‘women’ as cornerstones of the creation. She said that at the beginning of the creation the human being promised to make effort to seek God and justice in order to make a world full of beauty, peace and friendship.

Farahi said key to realizing the goal of creation is to seek knowledge.

She also described women as fountain of love and passion, epitome of God’s love, and beauty.

Empowering women through providing good education services, alleviating woman’s poverty, and reducing woman’s literacy rate were among the main topics discussed at the gathering.

The conference was organized by the Science Ministry with the cooperation of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).

Design Guidelines

1. Avoid sensitive sectarian issues and promote unity among the Muslims.
2. Choose any theme you like using — typography, art, abstract, illustration, photography — it’s up to you. We strongly recommend you to focus on the Gaza massacre.
3. Resolutions — Design a wallpaper in 2 resolutions:
   Widescreen: 1920×1200px
   Fullscreen: 1600×1200px
4. Must contain logo — make sure the wallpapers contain theMusim.org logo [use this for now till we have a proper logo] which is clearly visible on all wallpapers.
5. Brief description — of the wallpaper, the motivation behind the design, the country you come from and your URL.
6. Naming files — please follow this naming convention for all files you submit “monthyear-themeTitle–resolution.[jpg/png]“. Examples: “jan09-hajj-1920×1200.jpg”.
7. Submittion — Send the e-mail with your wallpapers at the latest two days before the end of a month at muslimconnect[at]gmail.com with the subject “[Desktop Wallpaper] Month, Theme_title”,
8. Wallpapers which are featured will be available for free download and will contain a link to the designers’s blog or portfolio.
9. There will be surprise award[s] at the end of the year for the best wallpaper[s].

Latuff has authored several comics about Middle East situations such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Iraq War. In his We are all Palestinians cartoon series, various famous oppressed groups, including Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto, Black South Africans during Apartheid, Native Americans, and Tibetans in China, are all shown stating “I am Palestinian”. Because of these cartoons, in 2002 the Swiss-based Jewish organization Aktion Kinder des Holocaust sued the Independent Media Center of Switzerland on the charge of anti-Semitism. The criminal proceedings were suspended by the Swiss court. To this day Latuff continues serving the oppressed people of the world.
